The taco found its way around the world, and the world now can be found in tacos. This is why mobile taco catering adapts to a broad range of events.

Taco carts came from a lowly beginning but have evolved as no one could have imagined. From the streets of Los Angeles, taco catering turned into a fun party concept, went gourmet, and then traveled north up the coast and south to San Diego County – as well as radiating eastward throughout the U.S.

We’re not just talking about Southern California’s sleepy bedroom towns, mind you. Some of the most glamorous regions have climbed the taco catering bandwagon.

Another sign that mobile taco catering is everywhere is how broadly and diverse these examples of gastronomy on wheels have become. It’s now possible to find kosher taco carts, Vietnamese taco carts, Belgian tacos (or fish tacos with Belgian endive), and unique Canadian tacos (maple syrup and salmon).

Perhaps the reason this trend has crossed into many different cultures is that taco caterers – including and especially those with mobile taco carts – work in a wide variety of situations. Consider the features:

Menu diversity – There is almost no limit to what can be rolled into a taco: we all know carne asada, carnitas, chicken, vegetables, and fish. But it’s entirely possible to make tacos with tofu, shrimp, eggs, sausage, grilled cheese, hot dogs, bacon and avocado, peanut butter, pork brains, fried crickets, and beef tongue. And while many of those appeal to only a tiny fraction of diners, few refuse the ice cream taco at the end of the meal.

Venue “freedom” – Mobile taco catering carts are self-contained kitchens. That means a little park on a hilltop, your grandparent’s garden, or a remote beach all become potential places for a big party. You can host a wedding or corporate event in a historical building that lacks a commercial-scale kitchen. Those places might otherwise be possible without a taco cart set-up but be hugely expensive, and the dinner would be cooked offsite and kept in warmers, not made-to-order.

Event flow – Taco dinners are not formal – even if the occasion and fashions are. And because of that, diners might not sit at tables, free to roam the party and interact with dozens of guests, not just the four or five seated next to them.

Cost reduction – Dispensing with tableware, linen tablecloths, perhaps tables altogether, and a large wait staff easily cut event expenses. Or, you can use the savings to hire a live band or arrange for other amenities such as valet parking, a better bar (a margarita bar?), or guest gifts.

There are many, many more taco caterers also on the scene because of all the features listed above. Some are simply add-ons to a broader catering operation, while others specialize exclusively in tacos. It’s important to ensure you’re working with a caterer who understands the nature of a taco event – they are more likely to break the traditional approaches to event food service. That means you get a better taco menu and service at a fair price.
